:iconolivieroplz:

Name: Oliviero Magarelli

Nicknames: Doc

Age: 36

Birthdate: November 22

Nationality: Italian

Gender: Male

Species: Swellow

Height: 5'8

Weight: 130lbs

Eye Color: Amber

Other Features: Oliviero used to have wings, like every other - see 'History' for how and why. The spurs on his leg are his only natural weapons, or a means of defense depending on the situation. As an outgrowth of the leg bone, surrounded in a thick layer of keratin, these spurs are sturdy, sharp and dangerous when used properly. Olivero files them down to keep them at the length they are now, as they continue to grow for as long as he lives.

Coloration: Oliviero has the normal coloration of any normal Swellow.

Faction: Templars

History: Born in a family of doctors and physicians, Oliviero grew up developing a big interest for this, and as a young Taillow began his apprenticeship with a well known doctor in Venice, Egidio. Under his tutelage he was taught everything from anatomy to surgery to autopsy to alchemy and disease control. He was an eager student, wanting to know everything about everything, anatomy being his biggest passion.

Egidio's office was located in one of Venice's main streets, a quaint little clinic that functioned as an apothecary as well. Egidio gathered a lot of his supplies himself and often took Oliviero out to the country side, teaching him about plants and animals, what parts could be used for mixing potions, or what would promote healing when used in a certain way. In the back are two rooms, reachable through a door behind the counter; one larger room with five beds, to be used for patients who needed to be monitored overnight, as well as a smaller room where surgeries and autopsies could be performed.
Upstairs was a small living space for the two.

Egidio was affiliated with the Templars, but he treated everyone equally, teaching Oliviero that everyone was entitled to receive healing or other medical help should they need it, Templar or not. Oliviero took this to heart, until disaster struck in May 1429, shortly after he finished his apprenticeship. He and Egidio were temporarily stationed in a camp in the countryside surrounding Milan, to aid the Knight Templars there in a short but violent local fuse with the Assassin Brotherhood. During one of the nights there, the Assassins struck, catching the guards unawares and taking out as many Templars as they could - Egidio included.

Oliviero escaped alive with a dozen others, but a stray arrow had pierced the shoulder joint of his right wing; not a great wound but the arrow tip had severed tendons and destroyed nerves, and with Egidio gone it could not be saved. Another doctor was called in from from a nearby city to amputate it, and after discussing it with Oliviero, the other, healthy left wing was removed as well, as it would be useless and would only get in the way from now on. (AN: this is my little tribute to Malik, ssssssshhh!)

Back in Venice Oliviero took over Egidio's clinic, remaining with the Templars and building a reputation for himself as a capable, skilled doctor... with a few questionable quirks.

Personality: Even to this day Oliviero still upholds Egidio's beliefs, that everyone deserves treatment - though those affiliated with the Templars will receive a discount as they are favored. He prides himself on being a professional. However, if something doesn't seem right about his patient, if he even grows the tiniest hunch that you might be an Assassin or affiliated with them in some way, he will throw the door in your face (when he's in a good mood) or stick a needle in your eyeball (if you catch him on a bad day).

Oliviero collects. The entire workshop, every surface is filled to the brim with jars holding things such as butterflies and fireflies, or various plant roots and leaves, to more morbid things like eyeballs and preserved (parts of) animals and mons. Lots of these things he also uses in potions and poisons, which he will make on order. He likes to experiment with various recipes he concocts himself; as a result some of the potions he has created over the years have no real effect other than that they are addicting and may make one feel funny... and he may or may not have a slight addiction to these potions himself. Oliviero is also a firm believer of leech therapy, and he grows the things in one of his rooms to make sure he always has a fresh supply.

His fascination with anatomy hasn't waned in the slightest, but fresh bodies aren't easy to get by the legal way. Most often when a patient dies under his care, he uses the opportunity to perform an autopsy to... pry a little deeper, perhaps even remove something to preserve later, before returning the body to the family. Other times, the Templars provide him with fresh corpses, either victims from battle or dead prisoners. Of course, being affiliated with the Templars means that he can get away with a little more, and no one will miss that beggar who always sleeps in that filthy alleyway anyway.

Oliviero is the kind of man who will not keep his opinion to himself, not even when he's asked. He will say what he feels needs to be said, whether it's appreciated or not. He's blunt with the truth, and will not sugarcoat things for anyone. "Reality is harsh. Deal with it, die trying or give up. Those are the only three options you have."

He always gets a little paranoid when he has to leave his clinic. It has never been a well kept secret that he supports Templar ideals and while he likes to believe that the Assassins won't target him because he also helps the common people, and is not some fighter who leaves corpses left and right... Egidio had met his end on an Assassin blade as well. The Templars have always treated his death as an unfortunate casualty, not because he may have been an actual target and they keep telling Oliviero to stop worrying about a possible assault on his being, but it does little to ease his worries. The Assassins are nothing if not unpredictable.

Clothing: His outfit resembles that of a plague doctor in a lot of ways. His gloves are made of thick leather and nearly everything is coated in a thin layer of wax, to more easily clean off any blood splatters. His utility belt holds a lot of pouches for storing items in like potion and poison vials or extra needles. The metal claws on his feet provide extra protection and a means to fight and defend.

Misc. Items: He always, always carries at least one big syringe with him, filled with a powerful toxin in case he's attacked. He also always has a knife on him, but it's main purpose is not for fighting. He's a doctor, not a warrior and though he's not opposed to killing when he has to, he has to incapacitate or kill his enemies with one or two blows, before they have a chance to counter his attack, because he will not win that one.
Therefor he always has various poisons and antidotes on him, and the needles he uses for this particular syringe are extra thick, sturdy and not easy to break. His extensive knowledge of anatomy plays a big part here, as he knows exactly where to strike for the best effect.

Moveset:
Peck (flying) - Extra effective when he's wearing his mask.
Aerial Ace (flying) - A fast burst forward before jabbing that needle into your throat/heart/eye. Quick and effective.
Mirror Move (flying) - Best hope you haven't just shown him your signature move, because you're getting it back.
Agility (psychic) - Because often times, knowing when to run away is healthier than staying to fight.

Ability: Guts (attack raised 1.5 times when struck with a status)

ROLEPLAY INFORMATION
Yes, Oliviero is available for roleplay; as a doctor he's made to interact with as many characters as possible... but there are a few rules attached. Note, I will not frequent the chat, not my thing though I may pop in every once in a while, so RP will mostly be limited to note and Skype. I always reserve the right to refuse RP and not give you a reason for it if I don't wish to do so. Don't be afraid to contact me for RP though, I'm usually very friendly lol.

Firstly, common RP rules apply:
* Decent grammar and punctuation. I won't make a fuss about the occasional typo, I make them myself but at least spell check your post before sending.
* No one-liners. If there is one thing I hate, it's one-liners! I'm not asking for novel posts, but I require at least one paragraph (ten sentences minimum). Give me something to work with, alright? ^_^
* No trying to get into Oliviero's pants, seriously. I do plan on getting him romantically involved with someone, some time, but that's far into the future. It might not even happen at all.
* This is an actual rule for the Group as well, but I'm repeating it here: keep in mind the timeline and where they are (Italy). I like to keep things are realistic as possible.
* No god-modding, power-playing etc.
* No undiscussed character-death.
* I don't mind R-rated RP, I really don't, but it shouldn't be the focus. Plot, people. I loves me some well-thought-out plot! ^__^ Sex RP purely for teh smutz is overrated.

IMPORTANT
Seeing as there is also an official doctor NPC, any items you buy from Oliviero (potions, poisons etc) are for roleplay purposes only, and not for official Group Missions! You will still need to buy those with earned Florins; see the Treasury and Shops journal here: [link]
I will not be held responsible if you screw up and get in trouble with the mods by using Oliviero as a means to get items you can use for official missions and jobs. When I RP with you I trust you to abide by the rules. Of course we can RP your character actually buying the items from Oliviero if you want as long as you do really buy them as explained in that journal.

Short term RP
This is for everyone, Templar or Assassin or anything in between (thief, courtesan etc). If your character requires medical aid, or is in need of potions or poisons or anything else that Oliviero can provide (as he also runs an apothecary) then yes, I'm always willing to do short bits of RP with you over note. There is no need to ask me beforehand, just send me a note with your post and I'll get back to you ASAP - my replies will usually be fast because I have no life and spent most of time free time on deviantART anyway.
These short bits of RP will last until their transaction is done, which depends on how much help your character needs. A minor injury, or simply buying stuff, might end with a few posts, but it's possible that if your character's injuries are more severe, Oliviero may request/demand that he/she stays a few days so that he can monitor your character's health - conversation can always happen of course. There is no limit to how often your character can visit.

Keep in mind that if your character's appearance screams 'Assassin', Oliviero will /not/ help you.

Long term RP
I'm extremely picky about my long term RP partners, because I tend to devote a lot of hours a day to those. Therefor, they are restricted to friends, and Skype only. This doesn't mean that if you're interested in long term RP with Oliviero, you can't contact me, but I really have to get to know you better before I agree to long term RP, and I won't add everyone to my Skype just like that. If Oliviero has met your character over note a few times already then that is a bonus, especially if I feel it clicks between them. It's quite possible that a potential long term RP starts out as a short term over note, it really depends on the dynamic between the characters.

As for RP art, yes I do those. Not always, and never on request, but yes it can happen when I'm inspired. Don't be too surprised if you suddenly receive gift art, it's meant as a compliment because it means I really enjoyed the interaction between our characters. ^_^
