I dusted off Jiro's old cage. BALD SPOT! XDDD He/she might grow a few more feathers but it will never fully be covered, it's genetic with that color apparently.
Anyway. This is Loki (yes I know, dur). He/she (don't know yet, too young to tell, probably female) was born with a defect, he/she can't fly. My boss thinks it's something in her brain (screw this I'm going with her) cause he says she has trouble keeping her balance, but I noticed she keeps one of her wings lower to her body than the other one, so my guess the problem sits in her wing.
Personally, I don't care she can't fly ^_^
She was born in this sort of park that's part of the petting zoo I work at, where we keep lots of chickens. They share their large pens with birds like parakeets, canaries, finches and the like.
Loki though, because of her issues, was forced to stay on the ground all the time, and was literally being walked all over by the chickens. So that's why I offered to take her, she couldn't have a quality of life there with her problems.
Besides, I've been saying I wanted a cockatiel for years so it's good timing. XD
She's still fairly young, her parents still fed her, but I was surprised how easy she was to capture. She didn't panic, she didn't even try to bite. Right now she's all poofed up and exploring the cage while whistling. And looking sleepy lol, she keeps yawning but I'm not surprised... lots of excitement today.
So yeah I'm looking forward to growing a bond with her. ^_^ The reason I held off getting a new bird for so long was because I kept telling myself that it would never be the same like the bond I had with Jiro. I was holding myself back... but I have to let it go. Just because Jiro was so amazing doesn't mean that I can't grow a bond with another bird as well.
And when I saw Loki sitting in the sand between the chickens, unable to even get away, I just... I dunno. I just had to have her.
Lol I always take in the runts! XD Jiro had fallen out of his nest and was about to be eaten by my cats, my bunny was abused and dumped outside in the winter, the budgie I had before Jiro wasn't right in the head either and my gerbils had issues as well. The only ones who are somewhat normal are my chinchillas.
So yeah. I'm happy ^___^
